Moths in the home that attack carpets or clothing are known as textile pests.
There are two main species, and each requires a different approach.
Costs vary depending on which species is present. Therefore an accurate identification is important before treatments are arranged. This can sometimes be carried out over the phone as each species has some easily identifiable habits. As a guide, carpet moths usually require one or two treatments, with a treatment costing £80 + vat.

The case bearing clothes moth larvae is often responsible for damage to wool or part wool carpets. This is often in hidden areas under furniture, such a book cases and wardrobes. Bare patches and loose debris are common. These patches tend to be found when hoovering or moving furniture around the room. Costs for this treatment are much easier to estimate. An average 3 bed home would normally cost £80+ vat. Sometimes more than one treatment is required.
The caterpillar “like” larvae of textile pests, such as the Common Clothes Moth, often damage clothing such as woollen sweaters, cashmere, fur and silks. The fabric normally has to contain natural fibres. Theatres often suffer from this pest because they hold large quantities of original garments, which contain natural fibres.
Non toxic treatments using temperature can be very beneficial. Putting garments into a freezer will kill all stages of this insects development.
We have successfully dealt with a wide range of textile pests, both in commercial premises, such as theatres and store rooms, and in domestic homes. Control methods vary, but spray treatments and fog treatments are considered along with other physical control measures, such as temperature control.
Moth traps housing pheromone lures can be used to monitor for adult activity.
